Stripper

Here’s the fireplace, a big project. It’s apparently sort of valuable, a Batchelder or similar. The decorative pieces have peacocks on them, but I can’t tell how they were cleaned or if they’ve been painted. Anyway, there’s thick coat of white enamel coating most of the tiles.
I am a happy scraper.

I can't believe someone painted over a Batchelder Fireplace! Batchelder tiles are so beautiful and SO valuable - that is a very expensive fireplace you have there! We are currently living in a 1920's apartment that was fully restored a few years ago (gorgeous) and it still has its' original Batchelder tile fireplace. It's one of my favorite things about the place, and I will really miss it when we move. From your picture it looks like your tiles are the same color as ours and we also have peacocks - the background being a beautiful light blue. Lucky girl!

Hi Anissa,
Thanks for your comment. The peacock tiles were painted with gold to sell the place, and I haven't cleaned them yet, but I don't think the background is blue.
I'm going to paint a mural on a wall inspired by the tiles. Will post it when its done.

Did you get interested in Craftsman style living in that apartment?
Take care,
K
