Last-Ditch

Today Bush met with Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan in Washington to try to convince Turkey not to attack PKK militants in Northern Iraq. NPR said there are 100,000 Turkish troops massed on the border, waiting. Although most are skeptical that this meeting had any affect, I think it’s possible. I certainly hope Bush offered some pretty big incentives to Turkey not to attack.
I worry about my friends who have teenage sons about to go into the army. I worry about my Kurdish friends in Turkey. I worry that Turkey’s economy could take a dive.

I think the meeting did not prove anything. There will be a military action before the winter arrives. Like you mentioned there are tens of thousands of Turkish troops in the area waiting. They will either have to be withdrawn or will have to move into Northern Iraq before the winter kicks in, otherwise they will suffer out in the field once the harsh winter arrives. So, whatever happens will happen quick.

Regarding some of your worries... I share your worries about the sons at the army and the economy will take a dive. I do not, on the other hand, share your worry about Kurdish population in Turkey. They have been safe and they will be safe. They have always been part of and citizens of Turkish Nation. They will not be mistreated by anyone. The military is after the PKK terorists based in camps in Northern Iraq, which then crosses border into Turkey to attach the military and the civilian targets for the past 20 years.

I will enjoy lahmacun for you along with ayran! Perhaps a baklava or two after for a dessert.

Please a have a giant burrito for me in So.Cal.
